Let's Mask!

Hi! I wanted to share a card today I made that was inspired by this post about Masking by Gini! She used Spectrum Aquas, which I also did.  I still kept with the masking technique, but changed it up just a bit.

First up, stamp the dragonfly from Stamp It: Dragonfly Delights on a piece of white cardstock, cut to 5 x 3.75.  Then, stamp it again, but onto a sticky (Post It) note.  You can also use a thin sheet of paper and repositionable adhesive if you don't have sticky notes.

Trim it out, as close to the edges as you can.  We are going to use this to cover up the dragonfly we stamped on white.

Ink up the stamp with the text and images on it (from the same stamp set) using VersaMark.  I used Dazzle Champagne, but any will do.

The sticky note will protect the ink from getting onto our image on the white!

Add some white embossing powder and hit it with a heat gun until it embosses.

Now, to color! Let's blend the colors, using an acrylic block as a palette.  Simply scribble both colors on a block (it becomes my palette) and then using a waterbrush (or paint brush with water), paint the colors into the image.  Bud Green and Kingfisher were used for this example.

Let's add that sticky note back on, after the coloring was done so it would be protected from the Distress Ink Seedless Preserves we will add to the background.  The embossed image also gives a nice resist effect!

Finally, let's splatter some water on the paper using a paintbrush (Distress Inks react  with water, so when you add splatters, they show up!) and add some shimmer using a brush and Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz.

Here is the final piece:

Let's also add some patterned paper from the Destinations CD Rom to frame the main panel.

I hope you give this a try - make sure to check out our Facebook Page for more inspiration!
