SP & Company Crop - Resist Embossing

Hi!
Welcome to the SP & Company online crop! I hope you are having a good time! I want to share a technique that I use pretty frequently called resist embossing.  It's very easy to do and gives you a very cool effect on your projects.

You will need:
Versamark ink (or another slow drying ink)
Embossing powder
Heat Gun
Stamps
Distress ink or markers or watercolors

In my first shot, you can see that I'm using this little chalker.  This, by no means is a required tool! But if you use it and tap is gently on the paper before you emboss, you will end up with a cleaner embossed image and less extra little flakes left behind.

After I've chalked up my paper, I stamped my image in VersaMark.  You don't have to use VersaMark (also known as watermark ink), but you will have to use a slow drying ink so the embossing powder has something to adhere to.  This dress form stamp is from the Sewing Chic set.

I use a coffee filter to protect my area from the white embossing powder.  I do have a catch tray, but this is easier to dump back into the container.

I gently flick the paper with my fingers to remove the excess powder.  You can also use a paintbrush to remove and other extra powder.  Then I use my heat gun to emboss the powder.

I broke out my distress inks and I stamped onto a small acrylic block.

By using a paintbrush with the distress ink and a little water, you can see what I created below:

I just brushed over the image.  Since it is embossed, it will resist the ink (hence the name of the technique)! You don't have to use distress ink and water, either.  You can use regular inks, paints and even markers (I just water them down a little bit)!

Here is the finished card:

I added some sequins and a sentiment from the new set that comes out on March 10th called Certified Awesome Additions.

For my next project, I also used the same technique, but this time I used a colored embossing powder instead of white and I just rubbed ink onto the card instead of using a paintbrush.

I used Chevron Chase Background for this card.

I just took my little sponge tool and rubbed the ink over the top of the card, using more at the top and less as I went down to create a slight ombre effect.  I also used a paper towel when I was done to wipe off the excess ink.  This makes the yellow embossed design pop a little more!

Here is the finished card.  I combined Certified Awesome with Certified Awesome Additions.

I also sprayed the card base with some mist, just to create some extra interest.

I hope you will give this technique a try! We have different techniques and projects happening today and tomorrow (with Sunday to work on them all), so make sure to check out the SP & Company Facebook page and the BLOG for all of the details and inspiration!!!

SP & Company February Release Day!

Hi and welcome to the SP and Company Blog Hop!

There are some absolutely fantastic new releases available at the SP& Co store right now, so head on over!

For my first project, I created a pretty simple card using the new Certified Awesome set.  I just love, love, love this set! There are so many creative sentiments to use and I love the multiple banners that are available!

I paper pieced the banner and popped it up using adhesive dots.  I thought it would be fun to use some spray mist in the background to compliment the polka dots.

I also created a mini album using Certified Awesome and the new Leaf Background along with some papers from the January Kit Club.

On the cover, I stamped Chevron Chase and the star from All Zipped up, along with some stickers and bling.

Here is the new Certified Awesome set again, with some hearts from the Tiny Build A Banner.

For this page, I used a sentiment from Certified Awesome along with Mix N Match Sentiments: Kids.

This is one of my favorite pics in the album.  Doesn't my daughter look annoyed? You can tell she was sooo tired of me taking pictures all day at the Children's Museum.  :)  I used the letters and banners from the Tiny Build A Banner for this page.

I kept the album very simple - it's just a little memento of our day together.  My husband and son were in Cooperstown, NY at the time for a baseball tournament, so my daughter and I spent the whole week together with my mom while they were gone.  This was one of the fun things we did, so it was nice to look back and remember this summer while I created the album.

I added the little line from Journal This and the sun from Falling for Autumn and some ribbon to finish off the book.

Thanks for stopping by today! Please head on over to Sami's blog to see the full release and more inspiration! And don't forget about the DT call we are having right now! It ends on February 20th, so you still have time to apply!

SP Trends Challenge #1

Hi!
Today starts the new SP Trends Challenge! Woo hoo!!! This challenge runs twice a month on Wednesdays.  There are prizes to be won and inspiration to be had (this month is a $25 gift certificate to the SP & Co. Store)!

Our first challenge is Chevrons.  They are so trendy right now and I see them in everything, not just paper crafts! I love, love, love chevrons, so I had to pick it for the very first challenge.

I used Mustache Madness and stamped it in black onto a white sheet of cardstock.  Then, I went in with white ink and stamped Chevron Chase.  I love the look this creates.  I also decided to emboss some plain stock and adhere it behind the stache.  I think the white on white is pretty cool!

So, now it's your turn to use some chevrons! Head on over to Sami's blog to link up! Please keep in mind this needs to be a new project and you must use at least ONE SP Product (freebies are available on Sami's blog, too).  You have just under two weeks to play along - I can't wait to see what you come up with!!!

Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks... For Being You!

Hi!
I've got a card to share that made me go out of my comfort zone.  I went with colors I don't normally use and I mixed patterns together!

I am just loving that Tiny Build A Banner set.  I use it on almost everything these days.  I also added into the background Chevron Chase using some Versamark watermark ink.

I stamped and cut out the notepad from Winter Pocket Fillers and added a flower from Poppy Field Summer and sentiment from For Every Woman.  I finished it all off with some patterned paper and washi tape.

Non Traditional Christmas Colors

Hi!
Today I have a Christmas card that I think is really unique.  I used non-traditional Christmas colors.  I love the color combo of red and turquoise together and I LOVE seeing it in Christmas papers!

I thought it would be fun to color in the candy canes from Winter Pocket Fillers with turquoise instead of the normal red.  I've seen different colored candy canes in the store, so why not, right? I also used the "Christmas Wish List" sentiment and note card from the same set.  Then I added in the herringbone heart from Artsy Heartsy along with some patterns from Chevron Chase.

I also added in some banners from the new Tiny Build A Banner along with a sentiment from the Cutest Gingerbread Man set.  The papers are from Carta Bella's Merry & Bright collection, which I just can't get enough of these days!

I just love the mix of the different patterns, how about you? Thanks for stopping by today!

SP & Company Hop and Release Day!

Hi and Welcome to the SP & Company Blog Hop!

We are shaking things up a bit with the holidays on the horizon and combining the November and December stamp release into one big party! That means extra projects for you today! All of these gorgeous stamps are available now! We will not have a December release party so that everyone can concentrate on family & friends.

This month's color is Teal! After you're done hopping around today, make sure you play along with this month's Teal challenge (click here for details) for a chance to win some amazing SP and Company prizes!

Do you want to win some amazing SP & Company Products? Then don't forget that the Prize Patrol is always watching! Leave a comment on every single blog to be eligible for the prizes!! The more blogs you comment on, the better your chances are of winning something fabulous!

For my first card, I used the images from the new Tiny Build A Banner set and a sentiment from In Love Emma (ApplesDapples Collection).  I also used some of the dashed lines from Stitchery Doo and the chevrons from Chevron Chase to complete the card.

The patterned stock is from Echo Park's This & That.  I just love the mix & match of dots and chevrons on this card.  I lightly inked Chevron Chase because I wanted it to hide behind the sentiment and give more of a distressed look.

Isn't Emma sooo cute? This set allows you to mix & match the items she is holding.  I love it!!!

I actually used Christmas papers from Carta Bella's Merry & Bright (this was part of the kit club), but you can't even tell they are meant to be for Christmas! Talk about versatile!
