A Little Gift "Purse!"

Hi! Today I'm excited to kick off a week full of inspiration on the SP Stamps blog! We are all focusing on gift ideas this week and I decided to make good use of my Silhouette.

I started out by cutting out a darling purse, matching accents and a tag from plain cardstock and papers from Echo Park's So Happy Together 6x6 paper stack.  This stack is one of my all-time favorites and was available in the SP Monthly Kit Club.  I chose this particular cut because that center slot holds a gift card!

After the pieces were cut, I started stamping and adhering everything together.

I stamped the chevron on the little tag and I only inked up the area that I would need.  Remember, if you don't have a block large enough for some of our background stamps (like Chevron Chase, pictured above), you can just use the acetate that the stamp comes on as your block.  It's also perfect when it's 2 am and you're still stamping, but getting lazy.  Oh, I'm not saying I do that or anything, it's just an idea.  Wink, wink.

Here's a little close up of the tag and a flower I created using punches.  I love to mix and match patterns, so I also used the Large Polkadot Background stamp along with the papers and Chevron Chase to keep it interesting.

Inside, I stamped the sentiment in black and in watermark ink, so it will sit right behind the gift card.  This is from the Swirly Doo set.  It fit perfectly inside!!!

And this is the finished piece.  The little "Happy Birthday" on the tag is from the All Zipped Up set.  I think this would be a fun gift for anyone to receive - I know my mom already had her eye on it!

Monochromatic Week!

Hello there!
It's Monochromatic Week on the SP Stamps Blog! So.... I always have a hard time with Monochromatic.  It's just a big challenge for me.  I've purposely taken on challenges in the past, just to get more practice, but I still kinda freak when I see that "Monochromatic" on a schedule.  Having said that, I went with browns.  That is my comfort color - I love to make cards with different browns and tans (oh, and I wear a lot of browns and my house is decorated with lot of tans... You get the idea!).

I used Swirly Doos for the lines and the sentiment.  And I did a little selective stamping! I only inked up the top line and I stamped it twice, making the space between them smaller than the actual set.  I just wanted a tighter look for this card since I knew I'd have that flower I die cut at the bottom.

I added some Chevron Chase to the banner tails in watermark ink and adhered everything using foam adhesive.

I think that sentiment just really pops off the card! Are you inspired to make a Monochromatic card now?! I hope so!!!!

Be Bold - Be CAS!

Hi and Happy Saturday! I have a CAS (Clean and Simple) card to share with you today.  Sometimes I feel like I can't do CAS - like the card is just too boring or needs more.  But then I have to remind myself that sometimes less is more and CAS doesn't mean boring!!!

For my card today, I used the same paper, but I started with the front and then flipped to the back.  The papers are from Echo Park's So Happy Together, which was part of the SP & Company Monthly Kit last month!

See how the card is very simple but still creates interest? I cut the papers to two different sizes and wrapped twine around the lower right.  I also punched out a butterfly and pulled the wings up.

The banner was created using the new Swirly Doos set! L-O-V-E.  This sentiment is perfect for this card - clean and bold!

So, what do you think? Really, don't be afraid to go simple sometimes.  I can't say that this card took me less time than a non-CAS (even though it should have, right?!?!), but I really love the end result.

 

 

 

 

 

SP & Company July Hop!

Now, onto my projects!

For the first one, I used the brand new Swirly Doos set! L-O-V-E! This set allows you to mix and match different sentiments along with a little sunburst-inspired image.  Simply fantastic.

I stamped the burst in a light green and then I added a little dark green to the center and to the lines.  I treated it like leaves.  Then, I cut apart the card and added a blue strip underneath and pieced the white base back together.  It gives a little more interest than a normal strip added to the top of a card.  I created the flower by hand with different punches and tools!

For my second card, I knew I wanted to do something fun with confetti since I was using the birthday sentiment.  So, I punched out some blue & white confetti and I placed it in a glassine bag.  I stamped the burst from Swirly Doos on the bag.



I also added Chevron Chase to the background and I cut a banner using a square punch to create the end element.  Fun, huh?
